The law should specify digital distribution rules: Askan Deutsch in an interview with Versicherungswirtschaft heute

On April 6, 2017, the appeal hearing on the suit that Bundesverband Deutscher Versicherungskaufleute (National Association of German Insurance Professionals) filed against Check24 took place in the Higher Regional Court of Munich. Askan Deutsch from FPS's Hamburg office wrote a guest opinion for Versicherungswirtschaft heute on the case. Deutsch, an antitrust law expert, looked at the significance of the decision for determining the rights and obligations of comparison sites. However, Mr. Deutsch noted that the sites had already been considered insurance brokers under commercial law and their activities were subject to the rules of the VVG (Insurance Contract Act) and the VersVermV (Insurance Brokerage Act). However, the specific interpretation of these in the online environment had been unclear, because the regulations did not make reference to the internet. He said he hoped that once the IDD (Insurance Distribution Directive) took effect, lawmakers would start to account for this growing segment.
