Online shop needs organic certification, Lebensmittelzeitung speaks to Askan Deutsch
Organic certification is required even for online shops, according to a decision of the European Court of Justice. Lebensmittelzeitung spoke about the decision with Askan Deutsch, an unfair competition lawyer at the Hamburg office of FPS. While Deutsch welcomes the legal certainty the decision has created, he also points out negative aspects especially for smaller companies, because "customers cannot verify any more than they can at the POS whether the requirements for the organically certified label are in fact met. The protection for consumers is disproportionate to the cost and effort involved."
